Recently I have been getting into blogs more and I have been looking for good ones to fill up my RSS reader. I got some basic tech blogs and humor blogs and then I started to get a little more creative. I decided to search for more off-the-wall things and see if anyone blogs about them. After a while I looked to see if anyone writes an office supply blog.
Why did that come to me? Well, I used to work as an office manager and strangely enough, office supplies take a lot more work and attention than you might think. I figured people who work in that kind of position have probably gotten bored and decided to turn it into something fun. And maybe they blogged about it?
As it turns out, there are a ton of these blogs out there. Some actually evaluate the merits of different supply brands, some are corporate blogs, but many are straight up humor sites. You would not think something like office supplies could be so funny but there it is, page after page of results all written tongue-in-cheek.
Why would office supplies be such fertile ground for humor? Well, for one thing, it is something everyone can relate to. Anyone who has worked in an office knows how people can screw up printers, or how you seem to run out of things at the worst possible time. For another, the people in charge of keeping track of these kinds of things often fly under the radar. They are able to see the office politics without getting directly involved in them. So they have a lot of good stories to tell that most people would be too embarrassed to share. So it is a lot more common than I thought!
